Hearthstone was launching Mercenaries, its first major new mode in years, introducing a roguelike twist to the familiar card-battling formula. The goal was to excite longtime players while pulling in new audiences by showcasing how fresh and different this mode felt.

I conceived and led the creative for the launch video, collaborating with Titmouse to bring the animation to life in a dynamic, anime-inspired style. I also partnered with music producers to create a rock version of the Mercenaries theme song that perfectly matched the high-energy aesthetic of anime openings dominating pop culture at the time. The result was a piece that felt bold, unexpected, and true to Hearthstone’s sense of fun.

The video became a standout moment for the launch, resonating strongly with fans for its playful tone and distinctive visual style. The campaign post earned over 2,000 likes, 509 reposts, and 98 comments on Twitter, helping generate buzz and anticipation for one of Hearthstone’s biggest mode launches to date.
